Abstract:Ventriculararrhythmiasarisefromdisruptionsinthenormalorderlysequenceofelectricalactivationandrecoveryoftheheart.Theycanbecategorizedintodisordersaffectingpredominantlycellulardepolarizationorrepolarization,orthoseinvolvingactionpotential(AP)conduction.Thisarticlebrie?ydiscussesthefactorscausingconductionabnormalitiesintheformofunidirectionalconductionblockandreducedconductionvelocity(CV).ItthenexaminestherolesthatsodiumchannelsandgapjunctionsplayinAPconduction.Finally,itsynthesizesexperimentalresultstoillustratemolecularmechanismsofhowabnormalitiesintheseproteinscontributetosuchconductionabnormalitiesandhenceventriculararrhythmogenesis,inacquiredpathologiessuchasacuteischaemiaandheartfailure,aswellasinheritedarrhythmicsyndromes.
